Terms of Use

Last updated 14 September 2026

1. About these terms

Navigate Boats (navigate.boats, “the app”) is a free, non-commercial personal project run by Blaz Umek, Slovenia (“we”). By using the app you agree to these terms. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

2. Not a substitute for seamanship

The app's go/no-go ratings, trip suggestions, routes and forecasts are automated guidance based on third-party weather models and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. They are not an official forecast, not navigational advice, and not a replacement for charts, official marine warnings, local knowledge or your own judgment.

The skipper alone is responsible for deciding whether, when and where to go out, and for the safety of the boat and everyone aboard. Always check official sources before departure.

3. Accounts

The app works fully without an account. An optional account (Google, Apple or email sign-in) syncs your setup and saved spots across devices. You must be 16 or older to create one, and you are responsible for keeping access to your email or Google account secure. You can delete your account at any time in Account → Delete my account (tap your initial, top right).

4. Your content

You keep all rights to what you enter, such as spot names. You give us a non-exclusive, free licence to store, process and show that content back to you, only as needed to run the app. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Only enter content you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful.

5. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the app: no attempts to access other users' data, overload or disrupt the service, or bypass its limits; no automated bulk access. We may suspend or delete accounts that do this.

6. Availability and changes

The app is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We may change, pause or discontinue features, including accounts, at any time. If we shut accounts down, we will give reasonable notice so you can export your data first.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the app or its data, including decisions made at sea. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body or health caused by our fault.

8. Third-party data and attribution

Weather and sea data come from Open-Meteo and DHMZ. Maps come from Esri, CARTO and OpenSeaMap contributors, under their respective terms and licences, as credited in the app.

9. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms materially, we update the date above and show a notice in the app before the change takes effect. If you keep using an account after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.

10. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Slovenia. If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the country where you live. Questions: contact@navigate.boats.
